'Hush Hush' by Becca Fitzpatrick

Nora grey is an average girl. She goes to school, studies hard, gets good grades and occasionally hangs out with her best friend Vee.
Nora and Vee have sat together in her biology class the whole year and then one day her teacher decides to mix up the seating plan and Nora is now paired with the mysterious new kid Patch.
After her father’s murder, all Nora wants is for things to go back to how they were before but Nora soon learns that Patch has his own secrets, and Nora is determined to uncover them.
Through snooping around Nora lands herself deep within something that is too much for any one person to comprehend. After Nora starts seeing things that aren’t really there she realizes she might be in a little too over her head and she has to rely on the mysterious Patch to help her.
If there’s one thing she will learn from all this it’s that not everything is always as it seems.

'Hush Hush' is the first instalment of the Hush Hush saga.
‘Hush Hush’ is a fantastic book filled with page turning suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Such a good read, I finished it in one sitting.
Unfortunately theirs is not too much I can say about the book without giving spoilers, but you’ll just have to trust me when I say “READ IT”.

Free Comic Book Day returns to Katoomba Library!

Comic book heroes and graphic storytelling are celebrated at worldwide with FREE comic books given away for readers of all ages!
On Saturday 3rd May 2014, Katoomba Library will once again be joining comic book stores all over the world to celebrate the diversity of comic books with their Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) event. Over 5 million comic books will be distributed to comic book fans of all ages, and Katoomba Library has once again partnered with award-winning Sydney comic book & pop culture retailer KINGS Comics, to give away 1,000 free comic books at their library.

Now in its thirteenth year, the exciting event is set to be bigger than ever, with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 currently being huge successes in the cinema. And with Marvel’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY arriving at cinemas very soon it looks as though 2014 has become the ‘Year of the Super-Hero’.

“Comic book heroes and comics themselves continue to finding new audiences due to TV, games and cinema adaptations” said Stephen Ford, Promotions Manager of KINGS Comics. “Later this year we also have movie adaptions of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES and SIN CITY 2 heading to cinemas. And popular TV series such as THE WALKING DEAD and ARROW; which are based on comic book titles; are bringing new fans back to the original source material.”

KINGS Comics is again excited to once again have Katoomba Library involved in their Free Comic Book Day promotion. “Comic books today are published for readers of all ages – children, teens and adults – meaning that you can easily find something appropriate that will stir the imagination. Involving libraries in FCBD gives KINGS the opportunity to showcase these titles to a reading audience eager for new stories” says Mr Ford.

Comic books and graphic novels are continuing to be used as easy entry points in schools and libraries for children to engage in the love of reading and this year’s FCBD titles have more titles for younger readers than ever before. This year there are comics featuring Archie, Sonic The Hedgehog, The Simpsons, Adventure Time, Spongebob Squarepants, The Smurfs and Teen Titans Go! – all aimed for the younger reader.

There is also a huge growing range of titles for adult readers which feature stories other than superheroes tales. Genres such as sci-fi, horror, fantasy and crime are now becoming more popular – especially from the US independent publishers. This year on Saturday 3rd May Katoomba Library will have comics from Marvel Comics (Guardians of the Galaxy and Rocket Raccoon DC Comics (DC New 52 Future’s End), Dark Horse Comics (Project Black Sky, Avatar), Image Comics (Rise of the Magi), IDW Publishing (Transformers vs G.I.Joe, V-Wars), Zenoscope Publishing (Grimm Fairy Tales) and many, many more.

So come into Katoomba Library on Free Comic Book Day and grab a comic book, and start enjoying the medium of graphic storytelling. Have fun on the day by cosplaying as your favourite super-hero and check out the special events your library has planned on the day!
